This month many of us are going to celebrate Independence Day and on Independence Day we celebrate freedom. Have you truly been set free? Are you celebrating freedom because you yourself are free? No one is perfect and we all sin. (Romans 3:23) Only in Jesus can we be set free from sin and death and be reconciled to God by the blood of His one and only Son. Only in Jesus are we truly free and eternally free.
Acts 13:38-39 says “Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses. (NIV) There is nothing that we can do to save ourselves from our sin and salvation for our soul is only found in Jesus. As we read in Acts, everyone who believes in Jesus is set free from every sin! We acknowledged earlier that we all sin, (Romans 3:23) our sin separates us from God and our sin leads to death. (Isaiah 59:2, Romans 6:23) John 8:34-36 says “Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (NIV) We all sin and therefore we are all slaves to sin but as we read in John, if the Son sets us free then we are free indeed! John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (NIV) We deserve death and punishment because of our sin but God, who is rich in mercy, has blessed us with His free gift of salvation in His Son Jesus and this free gift is to be received by faith. (Romans 3:25) When we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, then we are eternally forgiven for all of our past, present and future sins in Him and we are reconciled to God by the blood of Jesus. In Jesus we receive eternal life and we are eternally set free from sin and death! How do we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior? First, we must come to understand and admit that we are in fact sinners and we must believe in our heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us from our sins and that He rose to life again. Then, we can pray to God, admitting our sin and our need for Jesus, and invite Jesus into our heart and life as our personal Lord and Savior. If you have come to understand and admit that you are a sinner and you believe in your heart that Jesus died on the cross to save you from your sins and that He rose to life again, then you can invite Jesus into your heart and your life as your personal Lord and Savior. You can pray a prayer like this:
Dear Heavenly Father,
I know that I am a sinner and that I need Jesus to save me. I believe that Jesus died on the cross to save me from my sins and that He rose to life again. God I am sorry for my sin. I invite Jesus into my heart and my life as my personal Lord and Savior. I commit my life to you.
In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, then praise God for you have eternally been set free from sin and death in your Savior Jesus and you have eternal life in Him! When we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, then He lives in our inner being!
