God has blessed us with His Word and truth in the form of the Holy Bible. Through God’s Word we get to learn more about the sovereign God who created us and we get to learn about His Son, Jesus Christ, who died on the cross to save us from our sins. Through God’s Word we receive instructions on how to live our lives in a manner that pleases God. When we spend time in God’s Word God always blesses us through His Word and we grow in our faith. In the Bible 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us that “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (NIV) We are called to live our lives to glorify God and to do His will. If we want to learn how to do that we must spend time in God’s Word. Spending time in God’s Word is glorifying to God. In order to live according to God’s Word we must know God’s Word. I encourage everyone to make it a priority to read God’s Word in each day. You will be blessed for it! Even if you spend 5 minutes or less in the Word each day, you will be blessed and you will grow in your relationship with God. Joshua 1:8 tells us to “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (NIV) As seen in Joshua 1:8 we are instructed to meditate on God’s Word. When we read God’s Word we must take time and meditate on His Word and listen to His instruction, listen to what He is teaching us. Once we have read God’s Word then we must apply what we have read to our daily lives and do what His Word instructs us to do. For James 1:22 tells us “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (NIV) And James 1:25 tells us “But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. (NIV) So let us be faithful in reading and studying God’s Word for we will be blessed for it and we will grow in the Lord! God is faithful and He will make us to be faithful as well! If we miss a day or struggle with our efforts we do not need to be discouraged! For our God is the God of all comfort and He is faithful even when we are not! (2 Corinthians 1:3) Our God is rich in mercy and grace and richly blesses us with all things even though we are undeserving of Him and His blessings. So do not lose heart! Pray to God and ask Him to make you faithful in reading His Word and He will do it! If you are looking to start reading your Bible daily here are some tips that will hopefully be helpful to you. As we have said, it is God who works in us to do His will and He is faithful! Let us always keep this in mind and rejoice in our merciful and loving God! Here are 5 tips to help you faithfully read God’s Word each day:
Tip #1 - Choose a place in the Bible to begin reading
Choose any book of the Bible and a place to start reading. We want to spend time in all of God’s Word so any place is an excellent place to start! God will lay on your heart where to begin so don’t wonder if you picked the right spot, God picked it for you! Here on Good News Indeed we have Scripture writing/reading plans that you can do each month. These plans will have at least one Bible Verse to be read and studied each day relating to a monthly theme. These plans may be helpful to you as they provide a schedule that encourages you to read God’s Word each day.
Tip #2 - Make reading God's Word a daily priority
Remember that if you spend even minutes each day in God’s Word you will be blessed for it and you are doing something that God instructs you to do. If it helps, you can even set a timer on your phone to encourage you to read the Word each day. God will lay on your heart the amount of time He wants you to spend in His Word each day and this will
naturally take place. I am confident that you will find that once you begin reading God’s
Word you will want to spend as much time in it as you can! Remember God is faithful and He will make you to be faithful as well!
Tip #3 - Pray before you begin reading God's Word
Say a prayer before you begin reading God’s Word. Ask God to clear your mind of everything other than Him and His Word. Ask Him to teach you in His Word and give you
understanding in His Word. Ask God to make you faithful in doing what His Word instructs you to do. Ask God to make you faithful in always living to glorify Him.
Tip #4 - Meditate on God's Word
Listen to what God’s Word says and think about what the Scripture means. Think about what God is teaching you and telling you in the Scriptures. Take your time and study God’s Word. If you find that you are struggling with the meaning of something do not fret! Pray to God and ask Him to instruct you in this and He will do it! Remember God is faithful! Be patient, have faith and do not be discouraged. God loves you and He is working in your heart and your inner being! God works all things out for our good! (Romans 8:28) Continue to be faithful and you will be blessed according to God’s will for He knows exactly what you need even when you do not.
Tip #5 - Pray after you have finished reading God's Word
When you have finished reading God’s Word say a prayer. Praise God for blessing you with His Word and for blessing you with the time you got to spend in His Word! Ask God to continue to bless you in His Word and to give you understanding in His Word. Ask God to make you faithful in always doing what His Word instructs you to do. Ask God to make you faithful in living to glorify Him. Ask God to make you live according to His Word. Remember when you pray to believe that what you are asking for is already yours and know that God is faithful. For Mark 11:24 says “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (NIV)
After you spend time in God’s Word go out and live your lives for God each day! Enjoy being a child of God blessed for all of eternity!
